About Hamish

I was born and bred in Inverness ; first hacked my way round the local municipal course, Torvean, in my early teens.

Somehow I stumbled into a career in banking from school, which led me to spend most of the 90s in the central belt of Scotland; before returning to the Highlands in 1999.

Both of my children were brought up in Inverness – and have now graduated from universities with degrees in Chemistry and Sports Studies  (neither skills were inherited from me!)

For more than 40 years, I have had something of a ‘love / hate’ relationship with golf; with periods of intense infatuation with the game – to other phases where the clubs were in the shed / up for sale.

My interest in whisky started in the early 2000’s, but it was not until 2016 that this turned into a more serious ‘hobby’.

Through striking up relationships with local whisky shops in Inverness and then discovering the You Tube whisky community, I found myself undertaking distillery tours, whisky festivals – culminating in an epic 4 day tour of Campbeltown and Islay, during which I knew that one day I would be involved in the whisky sector in some shape or form.

Upon finishing my 38 year career in banking & finance in February 2024, I registered as a caddy at Cabot Castle Stuart, as well as working part time in the Highland Whisky Shop in Inverness.

About

Whisky and Golf

As months went on of being immersed in the worlds of golf and whisky; the concept of a whisky flight where all the drams had a theme / link to golf started to form in my mind.

Having been on a number of days that involved playing golf, and then being bussed to the nearest distillery, I felt that a great alternative for golfers would be to have an experienced and local whisky/golf enthusiast to ‘sherpa’ them through some hand chosen whiskies after a round, where we can jointly discuss the drams in the glass as well as the dramas of that day’s golf round.

Being a golf and whisky expert is no easy feat, but Hamish Malcolm, The Dram Caddy, is committed to excellence. He continually conducts research, staying updated on the latest trends and insights in both fields. This dedication ensures he provides an exceptional experience, offering his guests deep knowledge and genuine passion for both golf and whisky.
